Many who want to do good do not know the most effective ways to help others, and therefore miss opportunities to make a big difference. For that reason, there is great potential in spreading knowledge about how to maximize your positive effect. Teaching such ideas to more people and supporting them in putting the knowledge into action means that private individuals, organizations and institutions can to a greater extent invest their resources where they do the most good.

Effective altruism is the idea that has most influenced my way of thinking about impact.

Effective Altruism (EA) is a growing global movement dedicated to this. In EA, research and critical thinking are used to find out how to do the most good. The knowledge is then spread through, for example, reports, lectures and guides like this one. Effective altruism has inspired people like Sam Harris, Niklas Adalberth and Steven Pinker, among others. The movement creates a network of individuals who are strongly motivated to improve the world and who can work together to make progress in areas that are considered important both today and in the future. Relatively few are working to spread ideas from effective altruism and further work can therefore add a lot.
