Now you have gone through the whole guide, good job! If you want to do as much good as possible with your career, you should think about the following things in summary:

Problem

Choose a problem that is:

  • Large
  • Overlooked
  • Detachable

Profession

Identify what is impeding progress on the problem today and what roles can effectively address those bottlenecks. The categories below can be a good starting point:

  • Research
  • Direct work
    • Non-profit organizations
    • Entrepreneurship
  • High-paying professions that enable large donations
  • Influence work

Your suitability

Being good at what you do means both that you can make a bigger difference and enjoy your job better. Think about the professions in which you could do your best.

Create hypotheses & test them

It’s hard to just think of which roles you would be suitable for. Therefore, create hypotheses about which alternatives seem promising in the long term and test them as “cheaply” as possible to get more information.

A job you enjoy

The following factors are important for you to enjoy your job:

  1. Engaging tasks that enable flow
  2. Do something you are good at
  3. Supportive colleagues
  4. No major negative factors
  5. Do something that helps others
  6. The job fits the rest of your life
