The spotlight for January shines on Inês Boski, one of our newest members, who has embodied EA-like values throughout her entire career journey. Inês harbored ambitions long ago, and her current ambitious project focuses on enhancing decision-making to combat the climate crisis using AI, particularly causal AI.
When I stepped into the Vete-Katten café to meet her, the first thing that caught my attention was Inês’ eyes, brimming with energy and determination. Inês, with Polish and Portuguese roots, has resided in Sweden for 4 and a half years and holds a passion for opera. Similar to many EAs, Inês has deliberately charted her path, continuously evolving her beliefs and consistently contemplating the optimal use of her skills.
Her journey commenced with a BA in Geography, spurred by her early interest in the environment. Subsequently, she transitioned into the tech arena, recognizing its promising career prospects, and self-taught herself programming to be a web developer. Later on she added an interest in public administration to pursue an MSc in e-governance technologies in Estonia. She rounded out her academic pursuits with a Harvard programme centered on public leadership, with a focus on Evidence for Decisions, Policy Design and Delivery, Leadership, and Ethics. Meanwhile, she gained industry experience as a Software Project & Product Manager as well as a Policy Researcher to both accumulate career capital and ensure financial stability—a path often deemed essential.
This diverse trajectory culminated in the new development of Clima+, an executive climate action tool. Her vision involves creating a platform to assist company executives in making more informed decisions, utilizing machine learning to allow for scenario forecasting and risk assessment of potential decisions. Practically this would translate to understanding the effects of e.g. supply chain change X or of switching to a different energy source. The tool’s core objective extends beyond reducing GHG emissions; it aims to steer towards creating long-term value on the path to climate positivity. Inês is actively seeking two potential co-founders: one possessing expertise in machine learning and another with a climate background.
